Strenght and Balance Exercise Classes
There are currently five strength and balance exercise classes led by Physiotherapy staff in Aberdeen City . These take place at:

Westburn Outdoor Sports Centre

City Hospital, Carers Exercise and Information Group.
This group is designed for couples to attend together and is suitable for anyone who gives support to another person and is experiencing difficulties with their strength and balance.

The classes run for 90 minutes. This includes 60 minutes of exercise and 30 minutes discussion/information session during which tea, coffee and biscuits are served.

The aim of the classes is to:

Improve balance

Improve bone and muscle strength

Build stamina
-
Improve flexibility and functional ability

Improve posture
-
Increase confidence and reduce fear of falling
-
Provide an opportunity for education, information sharing and socialization
The exercise class will include:

A warm up
-
Posture correction advice and exercise
-
A workout including exercises in standing
-
Balance exercises
-
Strengthening exercises for the upper back, legs, arms and hands using exercise bands and weights

A cool down
-
Tai Chi
-
A home exercise programme

​
People are encouraged to attend the group weekly, wearing comfortable clothing and shoes.
Staff leading the group will discuss medical conditions that might affect your ability to take part in the exercise. However, the exercises are tailored to suit each individual participant’s health and ability.

Ask your GP or any health and social care professional to refer you to the Community Adult Assessment and Rehabilitation Service for a clinic appointment.
